The geometry and dimensions of spark plugs have changed considerably over the past 50 years. Structurally, the spark plug, today as in the past, consists of a central metal electrode positioned inside a ceramic insulator. Externally, the metal body is fitted with a thread for positioning in the engine head and a hexagon for tightening with a spanner; a special connector ensures the connection to the coil or ignition circuit wires.
The main purpose of the entire structure is to transfer the high electrical voltage generated by the coil to the central electrode without dispersion in order to generate a spark capable of starting the combustion process
